This Black History Month, we are honoring African American scientists and engineers that have helped change our world for the better. Have you printed something lately? You can thank Dr. Mark Dean for that. Dr. Dean is a computer scientist who is credited with developing many monumental technologies for IBM including the color PC monitor, the first gigahertz chip, and the interior architecture that enables devices, such as modems and printers, to be connected to personal computers. He holds three of IBM's original nine PC patents and currently holds more than 20 total patents. "A lot of kids growing up today aren't told that you can be whatever you want to be," Dean has said. "There may be obstacles, but there are no limits."

This Black History Month, we will be honoring African American scientists and engineers that have helped change our world for the better. Dr. Percy Julian was a revolutionary chemist whose discoveries improved our world and saved countless lives. He successfully produced synthetic physostigmine, which led to a glaucoma drug. He also pioneered the production of progesterone and steroids on an industrial scale and synthesized a compound for low-cost cortisone, making the once prohibitively expensive drug affordable to millions of people with arthritis. We are so grateful for Dr. Julian's advancements in science.
